It got complicated. But it wan’t really a complex matter.
It really was simple. David had sinned horribly. But more horrible still, David did not confess his sins. Instead, he covered them up. He buried his transgressions deep — deep within his own soul.
David stuffed his guilt. And that was a huge mistake. Because there is tremendous power in confessing our sins.
A pure heart. A courageous and steadfast spirit. A restored closeness with God. The Holy Spirit’s help. Confession bestows great blessings.
Maybe best of all, renewed joy and energy — a willing spirit — to sustain us against hardship, opposition, depression and heartache. Confession is healing.
Confession puts a song on our lips and freedom in our hearts.
That’s what David finally found out when he uncomplicated matters by simply recognizing he had sinned. If only David had remembered much earlier what a simple, yet hugely elegant and powerful act confession is!
And not just for David, but also for us still, there can be no more important daily habit to cultivate than to humble ourselves before God daily, and take our sins to the cross of Christ for full and free forgiveness!
It’s re-creative. Confession makes every day a brand new day!
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, you who are God my Savior, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness” (Psalm 51:10-14, NIV).

Lord, I want to be free. Forgive me my sins. Create a clean heart in me. Restore the joy of my salvation. And grant me a willing spirit to obey your will, and share your love with others.

Father, you are a loving God and full of grace. Stay close with me Lord, watch over me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, fill me with peace.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. (Psalm 51:12 NIV)
Father, in Jesus you have shared salvation. Great joy fills my soul. It gives me the strength to push on everyday until you come again.
